Corruption, Regime Type, and Aid

We wondered what would happen if we overlaid Canada’s 2010-11 foreign aid map with data on corruption (from Transparency International) and recipient country regime type (from Freedom House). The results are below.

To navigate this view simply click on a country bubble in either the map or the scatter plot. This will show more information on the amount of aid from Canada, corruption score and regime status. Countries are colored by regime status in the scatter plot (free = green; partly free = yellow; not free = red) and you can use this to limit the view. Two sliders are also provided to limit the corruption score (lower the score, the more corrupt the country) and amount of aid received from Canada in 2010-11.
